The House of Representatives rejection of the goverments regulation in lieu of law, or perppu, to fill leadership void in the Corruption Eradication Commossion should not hamstring the law-enforcement agency. With its current four leaders, there should be nothing standing in the way of commission working even more diligently and courageously. Opinions differ on the fate of Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean, the acting chairman of the commision, also know as the KPK, who was appointed under the perppu. Some have said the house's rejection mandates his resignation, but other belive that since the regulation was valid when president appointed him, there is no need for him to step down.
We belive that the four KPK musketeers are fully capable of leading the antigraft agency and withstanding the invetable attacks. If Tumpak is replaced, the official who steps into his role must be wholly credible with a spotless track record. The goverment and the house must learn a lesson from the election of Antasari Azhar, wich ended in disaster.
